Ancient World

Ancient World is a 200 capacity basement bar at 116a Hindley Street, and by sheer volume of programming it is the busiest underground room in Adelaide. Two floors, a low ceiling, and a calendar that turns over several times a week. What makes it work is that it lends itself out. Rather than curating a single sound, it hosts almost every crew in the city: wavecult bring dark 140 and pagan ritual nights, Doof Techno run psy tech and no phone dancefloors, Ez Now fill it with dubstep and jungle, Acetic split it between wonky minimal upstairs and prog below, and Wickid Lickwid hold monthly open decks for anyone who fancies a go. Sineapse, Overload, Dubvert, Nexus, Deja Vu and fourfourfour all pass through as well. Internationals arrive at the same intimate scale. Mystic State, Casey Club, Yushh, Dub Athlete, Wingz and Captain Pastek have all played to a couple of hundred people down in that basement.
