Counterpart aka Chris P.
Also runs: Redline Dubstars, tOAStjam
Counterpart is the DJ alias of Adelaide bass organiser Chris P, a self-taught selector who began in 1996 on belt-driven turntables and a borrowed mixer. Techno shaped his early years, but hearing dubstep in 2007 redirected his path. The following year he helped establish Pleasure, described as Australia's first weekly dubstep night, and later co-founded the Redline Dubstars with Jayar. Known for heavy low-end, brostep pressure and a willingness to move between old-school dubstep, breakstep, UK garage, future garage and drum and bass, Counterpart became a longstanding figure in Adelaide's bass community. After stepping back in 2012 for parenthood, he returned in 2021 and began rebuilding connections through Adelaide Dubstep Revival. He now runs tOAStjam's free park parties, producer showcases and REWIND reunions while continuing to DJ beside scene figures and newer artists. His mixes and live recordings preserve the depth, humour and physical force that have marked his sets for decades.
