Jayar aka Julian Jayar

Also runs: Redline Dubstars

Jayar is the DJ alias of Julian Jayar, an Adelaide bass selector and co-founder of Redline Dubstars. Active since the city’s first dedicated dubstep events in 2007, he helped introduce the sound locally when a crew brought Benga to the original Rhino Room for Adelaide’s first all-dubstep party. His sets draw from dubstep, drum and bass, breakstep, UK garage and future garage, with a focus on the weight and space of the music. Jayar remains closely associated with vinyl and the early records that defined Adelaide’s bass scene, while continuing to play material and darker 140 selections. Appearances include Wavecult’s Lucid Shadows, AirDNB’s VIBE DNB, an Ivy Lab support and the Roni Size and Visages laneway event. He often performs back-to-back with Redline Dubstars co-founder Counterpart, combining shared history with instinctive selection. Outside music, Julian is an architect, photographer, author, life model and certified somatic sexologist, giving his work a creative perspective.
