Cruel Reality is the DJ alias of Josh Whittaker, an Adelaide selector focused on neuro and neurofunk drum & bass, alongside 140 dubstep and breakbeat. His sets favour heavy low-end, fast rhythms and darker, more technical sounds rather than a single narrow style. His documented Adelaide appearances include tOASt at Bonython Park, Dancing Room at Henley Square and Wickid Lickwid’s first-anniversary open-decks party at Ancient World. Those bookings place him across several parts of the city’s grassroots electronic scene, from free outdoor gatherings and seaside sessions to underground club nights. At Dancing Room he brought a bass-heavy selection, while his Ancient World appearance placed him among a broad mix of emerging local selectors. Cruel Reality’s public footprint is still relatively small, but the project already has a clear identity built around harder drum & bass, 140 pressure and broken-beat sounds.
