Dancing Room
Dancing Room is built on a simple premise: dancing at a respectable hour. Every Tuesday through the warmer months a DJ pulls up at Henley Square with a PA in the boot, plugs in around six, and plays 150 minutes to whoever turns up. Free, all ages, outdoors, and finished well before most club nights have even opened their doors.
The genre depends entirely on who happens to be rostered. Across a single season the decks have carried drum & bass, psytrance, UK garage, tech house, progressive, dubstep, ecstatic dance and eighties remixes, with Tinkerb9L, Akita Wolf, Kaizo Trap, Amorositie, JoSH and Bobby Mckay among the names. Some weeks bring live drums alongside the records.
It has grown into something rather bigger than a DJ night, drawing over thirteen thousand followers, a 7NEWS segment and a song written in its honour. Winter sessions have moved inland to Prospect Memorial Gardens at Prospect.
