Messianic Gloss aka Duo of Matthew Adey and Brett Davis
Messianic Gloss is the Kaurna Country/Adelaide experimental noise and light duo of Matthew Adey and Brett Davis. Using hardware electronics, sound and visual systems, they create site-responsive performances that are improvised, dark, atmospheric and physical. Repetition and gradual change shape their work, allowing hypnotic patterns, abrasive noise and shifting light to develop in response to each room. The duo brings together decades of experience across music, lighting and art-making, treating the visual field as an equal part of the performance rather than decoration. Messianic Gloss has appeared at The Lab during Illuminate Adelaide, Queens Theatre, Ancient World, The Tote and Melbourne’s Sub Club, sharing bills across experimental electronics, black metal, powerviolence and performance art. Adey and Davis also operate Misanthropic Grief Club, a curatorial platform presenting adventurous artists, collaborations and audiovisual events while extending the duo’s creative direction.
