Plastiq
Plastiq is not a DJ but a three way project, and a conceptual one at that. Moses Carr and Quartz Pistol handle the music, digital artist CAPITAL WASTE handles the world it lives in, and together they work through possible futures for life in the Anthropocene using composition, live performance and costume.
The sound is pop music run through IDM, film score and a production style they describe as visceral and otherworldly, staged against visuals of an apocalyptic virtual world their digital doubles inhabit. Energy, the fourth single, writes from the perspective of someone in chronic pain and furious about it, drawing on the endometriosis experience under patriarchal capitalism. Killer preceded it back in 2023.
They are Melbourne based, and Lost City brought them to the Lion Arts Centre in May for its return after a decade away, on a multi genre bill headed by Sleep D.
