Closer Record Store is a Glenelg record shop, broadcast space and event platform run by Glenn October, built around underground electronic music and vinyl culture. Growing from livestreams started during the pandemic, Closer became a physical record store in 2021, creating a permanent place for DJs, collectors and listeners to meet, share music and develop their craft. The shop specialises in electronic vinyl spanning house, techno, electro, ambient, breaks, dubstep, drum & bass, trance and leftfield sounds. Its in-store DJ sessions are vinyl-only and broadcast online, giving Adelaide selectors and visiting artists a space outside the traditional club circuit. Closer also works beyond the shop through listening parties, artist showcases and collaborative events, including projects with labels and promoters such as Acetic. More than a retailer, it operates as a meeting point between record digging, DJ culture, broadcasting and Adelaide’s underground electronic community.
