Jason Sweeney

Jason Sweeney is an Adelaide/Tarndanya-based singer-songwriter, composer and electronic musician whose work spans synth-pop, ambient music and sound for theatre, dance and film. A self-taught artist, he began playing in electronic and guitar-pop bands in the late 1980s and early 1990s before theatre studies opened a parallel career in composition. Releasing music internationally since 1996, he records both as Sweeney and as Panoptique Electrical, the project behind his ambient and instrumental work. His songs place queer experience at their centre: the 2024 album Ageism considers ageing, desire and the pressure to remain young through ten electronic pop songs. Alongside his recordings and live performances, Sweeney has a long-standing relationship with Patch Theatre, composing for productions including ZOOOM. His practice connects personal songwriting with experimental sound, moving between intimate vocal music, instrumental recordings and collaborative performance.
