Medea is a DJ from Adelaide, based on Kaurna land, whose selections lean into the dubbier side of dance music, with a focus on hypnotic, polyrhythmic techno. They first came into the scene through a longstanding residency at Casablabla, where their sets drew on global rhythms including reggae, afrobeat, dabke and folk music from many traditions. In 2018 they founded Subvert, a series built to widen the range of genders and genres behind the decks in Adelaide's underground and to offer an explicitly safer space for people of all genders and sexualities. Subvert grew into a flagship event in the city's underground, known for extended sets from internationally touring DJs. In 2023 Medea launched Tidal Pull on duck! radio, ranging from dub techno and ambient to Egyptian shaabi, and has played festivals, doofs, raves and regularly at Ancient World. Every set celebrates the freedom at the core of dance music and invites anyone who chooses to listen onto the dancefloor.
