James Corbett

James Corbett was born in Adelaide, spent his early years in the UK and now lives back in Adelaide. Inspired by BBC Radio 1’s late-night shows, he was mixing on twin tape decks by nine and began his career in 2001 with hard house and trance. He is now a label DJ for Mad Maxx’s United Beats Records, playing full-on psytrance driven by melodic leads, distinctive basslines and atmosphere. Progressive and other forms of psy also shape his sets, where the journey matters more than the genre and planning rarely extends beyond a playlist of options. His festival appearances include Tree of Life in Greece, AUM in New Zealand, Esoteric Festival, Mushroom Valley, Dragon Dreaming, Nyx, Earthcore and Babylon; the latter two as The Psy-entists with Adam Stapleton. James has also performed alongside Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, Astrix and Infected Mushroom. He performs as Accent of Sound, runs Doof Techno, Psy-ence Fiction and Psyence Lab radio, and co-produced the documentary Decks and the City.
