JoSH aka Jo Altman

DJ JoSH is one of Adelaide’s longest-running female DJs, with a career dating to her first residency at the Mars Bar in late 1984. Emerging when imported dance records were scarce and the city’s club culture was taking shape, she became a fixture across gay clubs, warehouse parties, raves and events. Her 1990s Lick parties at Club Freezer created a meeting point for queer and straight audiences, linking music, fashion and performance in a space built around acceptance. JoSH later appeared at Adelaide events including Enchanted and supported acts such as Dead or Alive, while earning the city’s number-one female DJ ranking for three consecutive years. Her sets span house, piano house, Euro, NRG, trance, rave and club classics, balancing nostalgic favourites with releases. She is also a producer, label operator, promoter, podcaster and author of Music Wars. Through The Golden Years and reunion appearances, JoSH continues to document, celebrate and extend Adelaide’s dance-music history.
