HMC — Adelaide DJ

HMC aka Cam Bianchetti

Also known as: Late Nite Tuff Guy
HMC is Carmelo Bianchetti, better known as Cam, and widely called the godfather of Australian techno. The name stands for House Master Cam. A disco kid who fell for Chicago house and then Detroit techno, he started DJing in Adelaide in the mid eighties and spent the nineties putting the city on the international map. Juice Records and its offshoot Dirty House carried the run. Phreakin' became an international hit in 1995, 6 A.M. and LSD followed, and the latter was dropped by Carl Cox on F.A.C.T. in 1997. LSD is now held in the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia. He played E-Werk in Berlin, Mayday and Trans Musicales, and later Berghain. The early 2000s brought a pause, and his second act came as Late Nite Tuff Guy, the disco and soul edit alias that founded Tuff Cut and produced official remixes for New Order, Herb Alpert and Salsoul. In May he played Cargo Club's 29th anniversary at Hindley Street Music Hall.
