AnthemsAU
AnthemsAU is an Adelaide old-school dance event series and archive community founded by Paul Hamon in 1997. Conceived as a lower-key alternative to the city’s large raves, its first event, Experience Anthems, was held at Heaven on 8 June 1997. The idea was simple: bring the crowd and DJs together around house, rave, trance, techno and club records that carried the most memories. Anthems became a fixture at Heaven, then continued through St Pauls, Traffic, the Arkaba, Cargo, Tonic and HQ with editions including Old School Anthems, Twice As Nice, Trance Anthems, Christmas Anthems and Anthems Homecoming. After later reunions at the Arkaba and HQ, the series returned during Adelaide Fringe at Gluttony in 2025 and 2026. Beyond its parties, AnthemsAU preserves South Australian dance history through restored flyers, photographs, recordings, event chronologies and issues of The Core. Nearly three decades on, it remains both a reunion floor and a living public record of Adelaide rave culture.
