Mala Mia
268 Morphett Street, Adelaide

Capacity: 175
Mala Mía is Adelaide's only Latin American bar, and 268 Morphett Street has been through a few lives to get there. It was retro cocktail bar Lotus Lounge, then Little Havana, and Leo Rossi, who managed the latter, took it on to build something that keeps the Latin community around it while adding wine, vermouth and tapas to the party.
The layout is what makes it work for dance events. An indoor performance room opens onto a beer garden and patio, capacity 175, with Argentinian asado nights and cumbia bands sharing the calendar with club bookings. Fridays and Saturdays run through to three in the morning.
That open air courtyard has become one of the city's best day into night rooms. AirDNB run Vibe and their Hospital Records thirtieth here, Front Room brought James Zabiela in for a two and a half hour set on full Funktion-One, and Psy-ence Fiction mark fifteen years with Talpa.
