Low Life Basement Bar
Part of Rhino Room — see full lineup →
131 Pirie St, Adelaide
Capacity: 120
Low Life sits in the basement at 131 Pirie Street, directly beneath Rhino Room, in the space that once held the Bluebee Room. It takes 120 people, which makes it one of the smaller rooms in the city and explains why promoters keep describing nights down here as intimate.
The calendar is genuinely omnivorous. Punk, prog rock, industrial and power electronics share the week with album launches, acoustic sets and club nights, and the bar has become a default landing spot for anyone putting on something that needs a low ceiling rather than a big room. Almost nothing about the place is polished, which is rather the point.
Bass music has taken to it particularly well. Wavecult brought Truth over from New Zealand on a full Tordenheim rig, Redline Dubstars and the Bassbin crew marked eighteen years of chest rattling low end with Rewind, and tOAStjam run their jam sessions in the same basement.
