Adelaide Cinephonic

Adelaide Cinephonic is an underground music-cinema club founded in 2026 by friends and film fans Aaron and Richard. Created to bring music and cinema audiences together, the series presents rare, cult and award-winning music documentaries in Adelaide venues. Each film is licensed directly from its director or producer, with ticket income supporting future independent screenings. The program moves across genres, countries and subcultures rather than following a single musical lane. Its opening season at Low Life Basement Bar spans the Black pioneers of Detroit techno in God Said Give ’Em Drum Machines, Long Island’s early-2000s DIY punk community in Between Resistance and Community, and the search for Jamaican singer Sheila Rickards in Shella Record – A Reggae Mystery. Screenings are followed by discussions with filmmakers, people connected to the stories or members of Adelaide’s music community, turning each event into a shared conversation about music, history, identity and culture.
