Sonik aka Paul Doudy
MC Sonik is Paul Doudy, an Adelaide master of ceremonies whose connection to South Australia’s rave scene reaches back to the late 1990s. Sonik provides the voice of the room: introducing performers, lifting the crowd and adding vocal energy without crowding the music. Archived flyers place him at Release in August 1998, Ultra Flava 4 at the Heritage Hotel that November and Resolution on New Year’s Eve, working across house, progressive and trance line-ups beside many of Adelaide’s defining DJs and MCs. His later appearances show that connection continuing through old-school reunions and harder dance events. Sonik joined the Rise reunion, supported DJs at a revival inside the Old Adelaide Gaol and returned alongside Shorty B for Faze One and Dance Floor Heretics’ Xmas in July. He also joined Fresh 92.7’s Evolution for a Rise Nightclub retrospective. With decades of history with Adelaide dancers, MC Sonik remains a familiar voice linking the original rave era with present-day reunions.
