Bakup aka Piers Yorke

Bakup is the drum & bass alias of Piers Yorke, an Adelaide DJ whose involvement in the city’s bass scene stretches back at least to the mid-2000s. He appeared on the 2005 BLIND charity lineup at Earth Nightclub alongside Dkay, Stamina MC, Bulletproof, Patch, Fiction and other local drum & bass names, and was still active in 2008 supporting Mark N at Rhino Room for Shadow Play. His sound sits at the deeper, darker and more minimal end of drum & bass, offset by liquid and funk influences rather than staying relentlessly heavy. That range is reflected in mixes such as Echoes of Electronica and the Feather Flow series, as well as his 2022 Noisy Stylus set with Pase MC. More recently he has remained part of Adelaide’s local DnB circuit through events including DnBeach and the LRD Sessions series at The Little Red Door. Across two decades of appearances, Bakup has maintained a low-profile but persistent presence in Adelaide drum & bass.
