The Crown and Sceptre
308 King William Street, Adelaide
+61882124159
Capacity: 220
The first Crown and Sceptre opened in 1868 in the former showroom of the Hubble Brothers' coach factory. By 1877 Alfred Hubble had built a new pub next door, designed by E.J. Woods and William McMinn, and that is the building still standing at 308 King William Street today.
It was innovative for its time. A serving window let staff sell to customers out on the street, and a tramway ran to the rear so that beer barrels could be delivered straight down to the cellar. The South Australian Register called it one of the finest houses of entertainment in Adelaide, and the live music reputation held right through the eighties and nineties. It closed briefly in 2012 before the Gitsham family reopened it in 2014.
Capacity now sits at 220. Inbound came back here for their twenty eighth birthday, returning to their original home for a night of drum & bass with Fiction, Patch, Kiddo and Gunda G.
