Mark Yusef Wilson
Mark Yusef Wilson is an Adelaide DJ and promoter known for themed nights covering indie rock, Britpop, synth-pop, soul, funk, mod and ska. Active in the city’s alternative club and pub circuit for years, he has developed events including How Soon Is Now?, Jackie Wilson Said, Mod Vs Ska, Are Friends Electric? and The Gentleman’s Record Club. Each night gives a particular era or style room to breathe, with specials featuring Depeche Mode, New Order, The Cure, Blur, Human League and Talking Heads. Wilson also presents This Must Be the Place at Ferg’s, drawing from his vinyl collection for sessions spanning 1970s, 1980s and 1990s soul, rock ’n’ roll, funk, electronic pop and indie rock. His events have appeared at the Kings Head, The Austral, Crown and Sceptre, Oxford Hotel and Ferg’s. Rather than treating retro music as a fixed playlist, Wilson builds sets around connections between songs, scenes and decades, creating welcoming dancefloors for devoted fans and casual listeners alike.
