Makybe Diva aka Pia Gynell-Jorgensen

Makybe Diva is the DJ alias of Pia Gynell-Jorgensen, an Adelaide visual artist who brings the same playful streak to the decks that runs through her studio work. Best known for abstract oil painting, she has held solo shows in Adelaide at Backwoods, Staff Only, Atelier Antifragile and The Spray Room, won the Royal Society of Arts South Australia Abstract Prize M & M Carbins Trust award in 2023, and was a highly commended Unley Art Prize finalist in 2025. Music has long been part of the picture. As a freelance illustrator she works with musicians on festival branding, album art and gig posters, and in 2020 she sat on the Backstage Class panel on art and design in the music industry. As Makybe Diva she was booked for HOUSEBLEND, the West End's day-long celebration of independent café culture and local DJ talent that winds up in a Liverpool Street block party.
