The Marion was built by SA Brewing in 1966 and has been part of the Hurley Hotel Group since 1984, which makes it a sibling of both the Arkaba and the Hotel Royal. A major renovation has since reshaped it around four function spaces, two new bars, a dining room and 62 guest rooms, with a garden, a terrace and an open fireplace in the lobby. It sits five minutes from Westfield Marion and twenty from the city.
That garden is where the music happens. Dance Floor Heretics have run Mellow Monday there twice on public holidays, six hour afternoon sessions of relaxed grooves and rave nostalgia with BOF, Moshman and Laranja Grande, pitched squarely at people who would rather dance in daylight than at three in the morning.
Beats on Parade have brought their roaming free entry night here too, uplifting house, dance classics and live percussion in exactly the kind of suburban room the series was built for.
