Morph aka Michael Patterson
Morph is Michael Patterson, an Adelaide DJ working in drum & bass. The name shares its root with the handle he uses online, mighty morphin, though the music sits a long way from the joke.
His mark on the local circuit came in February, when Sauce picked him for Icons Vol 5 at the Gala Room in the Austral on Rundle Street. The Icons series exists to bring the genre's founding figures to Adelaide, and Vol 5 brought Ray Keith, the Dread Recordings boss whose records helped shape jungle in the first place. Sauce pitches the series as drum & bass the way it is supposed to be, dark, loud and full of realness, and the local support gets chosen accordingly.
He shared that bill with Mikey, Kiddo, Fiction and Patch, with Pab on the mic, a group that turns up across most of the city's larger drum & bass nights. That is a short list of names for a room with an originator in it, and being on it counts for more than a long one would.
