Jacqui Bourne
Jacqui Bourne is an Adelaide selector who works in disco, funk, soul and seventies and eighties vinyl. The handle she uses online, jacquibourneultimatum, borrows from the Bourne films and is about the only piece of self description she has put anywhere.
The booking on record is Wauwi Nights, a free all ages pop up staged by My Dead Grandpa in Light Square. Vintage market stalls, pizza from Sunny's, lino printing and a bar from Nearly, with the DJs playing to a crowd that had come to browse and to eat as much as to dance. That is a particular skill and quite a different one to a club: a Friday afternoon in an open square with families passing through asks for records that carry warmth rather than pressure, and disco and soul do that better than most.
She shared the decks with Pierre Honey and Sam Lavers, and the format kept the focus squarely on the crates rather than on the mixer.
