Steve Hooper

Steve “Hoops” Hooper is a veteran Adelaide nightclub DJ and radio presenter whose career reaches back to the city’s 1980s club era. Alongside James Ingram, he became closely associated with McMahons, later playing at Heaven, Le Rox and The Planet. His mix of disco, pop, dance and classic party records made him a familiar name across generations of Adelaide clubbers, with Planet Disco among his best-remembered residencies. In the mid-1990s he formed Hoops Inc. with Simon Lewicki, later known as Groove Terminator, releasing two singles together. Hooper subsequently relocated to Darwin, where he continued playing nightclubs, parties and events while moving into radio. Since 2016, he has hosted The Classics on 104.1 Territory FM, selecting classic rock, rarities and favourites from the late 1960s through to the 2000s, and also serves as an assistant music scheduler. He continues to return to Adelaide for retro festivals and McMahons reunion events, often reuniting with James Ingram.
