Steve Hooper

Steve “Hoops” Hooper is a veteran Adelaide DJ whose history reaches back to the city’s late-1980s nightclub era. Closely associated with McMahons alongside James Ingram, he became known for an accessible mix of dance, disco, pop and party records before moving into Adelaide’s rapidly changing early-1990s club scene. Hooper later became a familiar name at Heaven and other major Adelaide venues, appearing alongside DJs including Groove Terminator, Uzi and James Ingram. His career also included Hoops Inc., a production partnership with Simon Lewicki, before he eventually relocated to Darwin. Away from Adelaide, Hooper continued DJing while building a long-running career in radio. He now presents The Classics on 104.1 Territory FM, drawing on decades of music knowledge across rock, pop and dance. He still returns to Adelaide for retro festivals and McMahons reunion events, reconnecting with the clubs and crowds that formed the early part of his career.
