The Exchange Hotel

The Exchange Hotel is a historic Gawler pub and entertainment venue at 155 Murray Street, first licensed in 1868. Once a single-storey hotel, it later gained an upper floor as Gawler became a stopping point for travellers from Adelaide. Today it combines Murray’s BBQ & Bar, a sports bar, gaming facilities and a roof garden overlooking Pioneer Park. Entertainment remains central, with DJs and bands on Friday and Saturday nights, acoustic sessions, televised sport and community events. Murray’s pairs exposed brick and timber with American-style smoked meats, accommodating 120 guests cocktail-style or 70 seated. The sports bar holds 60 standing and includes a dancefloor, large screens, lighting and audio equipment. Upstairs, the weatherproof roof garden accommodates 80 cocktail-style and features its own bar, wood-fired pizza oven, giant LED screen, heaters, cooling mist and a retractable roof. Together, the spaces support dining, nightlife, private celebrations and corporate functions.
