Ed Castle
233 Currie Street, Adelaide
The Edinburgh Castle went up on Currie Street in 1837, a year after the colony was proclaimed, and the heritage listed building still has the stained glass and floorboards to show for it. Front bar, hallway, L shaped beer garden out the back, a restaurant, and a band room carrying one of the better PAs in the city.
It reopened after renovation in December 2023, and is now widely known simply as the Ed Castle. Live music runs most weekends, and Plus One has been the long standing Saturday night fixture.
Its biggest chapter is the current one. The Crown and Anchor was pushed out of 196 Grenfell Street after 170 years to make way for student accommodation above the site, and while that construction runs the Cranker has taken up residence here. Two of Adelaide's oldest pub music institutions, sharing one address on Currie Street.
